Osteopathy for adults, children and babies
Osteopathy for adults
Osteopathy was founded in the late 1800s by physician and surgeon Andrew Taylor Still in Kirksville, Missouri. The son of a surgeon, Still soon discovered that in order to achieve the highest possible form of health, all parts of the body should work together harmoniously. His goal was to restore the body to optimum health with minimal surgery and medicine, influenced in part by the realisation that medical treatments of that time were largely ineffective and in some cases, harmful. Still was a sufferer of constant headaches – one day whilst suffering with a severe headache, Still went to sit on a rope swing that his father had made him, he laid his head back against the rope and fell asleep to wake up to no headache! This is what gave him the idea and Osteopathy was formed!

The rate of employees calling in sick at work due to work related neck, shoulder and other repetitive strain type injuries is on the rise. Poor desk set up as well as stress and repetitive movements will eventually take its toll on the body. At Amee Shah Osteopathy, we believe that we can help to reduce discomfort and pain caused at work, as well as provide key information on desk set up to help improve work conditions.
In 2017/18, musculoskeletal conditions resulted in the loss of 6.6 million working days in the UK, with sufferers taking an average of 14 days off work per episode¹. This accounted for 24.6% of all workplace sickness absence in the UK with a total estimated cost to the economy of £12.3 billion a year. Every year, musculoskeletal conditions will affect one in four adults in the UK which constitutes 30% of all GP appointments. Musculoskeletal conditions accounted for over 25% of all surgical interventions in the NHS, and this is set to rise significantly over the next ten years².
